Lincoln County wary of costs if #StormArea51 continues

Area 51

The crowds for #StormArea51 fell into a “best case scenario” for authorities, as the actual number of visitors fell far short of some predictions.

Still, Lincoln County Sheriff Kerry Lee told the Lincoln County Record, “there will be some hard decisions to make” if the event repeats in 2020.

Among the concerns:

  • overtime costs
  • vehicle and fuel costs
  • housing costs
  • meal costs

A $50,000 lawsuit to recover costs from this year’s event was filed by Little A’Le’Inn owner and event organizer Connie West. The suit names Matthew Roberts, Hidden Sound LLC , Frank DiMaggio, John Greco, Brock Daily and several others.

The sheriff applauded the efforts of state agencies and the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department in responding, especially given the uncertain nature of the event.

The Lincoln County Record also reported that Lee thanked the Bureau of Land Management for running point on media relations, explaining that his office was flooded with phone calls all week.
